Insanity

I was going to write a post about how Saturday is the race and how I've come from running for 5 minutes straight to running for 30 minutes, how I've been taking the time to run outside by myself and enjoy some alone time in addition to training. I was going to write about meeting my new nephew this past weekend and seeing my less-than-new niece. I had so many different things to say.

Instead I will say: my daughter is driving me insane. Beyond insane. Not the new one, although she is contributing with her new skill of pulling up to standing in the tub and trying to break her head. No, not that one. The other one, the older one, the one who turned 3 on May 15 and is supposed to be normal now. The twos are behind us. She's supposed to be NORMAL NOW. Every night I put her to bed and she says she does not want socks or blankets. Every night. Every night I leave the room and she chases me crying saying she wants socks and blankets. When it first happened I would turn around and go back and she would lay in bed and say No, she didn't want socks and blankets. I finally stopped turning around and would leave her crying at the gate. Then my husband would eventually go up since SkyWalker needs to sleep for school and Chewie needs to sleep and who can sleep with screaming? So he would go up and she would accept the socks and blankets and all would be fine. So now when I say to her "No shananigans, if you want socks and blankets ask now because I'm not coming back up" she says "Daddy will do it." Awesome. Especially when Daddy is not home. I know that's it's not about socks and blankets. She can do these things herself. And it's 80 degrees. It's all about control and she's challenging us (me). But I'm having a devil of a time fixing it. I give her many opportunities throughout the day to have control. She chooses her breakfast and her lunch. She chooses her clothes. She has independence. I don't control every minute of her day, it's not like this is the only outlet that she has to exercise some control over her life. But I also don't give in to her every whim throughout the day either. She doesn't get rewarded for whining or crying.

I'm sure I had these issues with SkyWalker. He probably just cried at bedtime and didn't tell me why. I know there were plenty of times he didn't want to go to bed and claimed he had to poop. Maybe this is just her wanting to delay bedtime and there's not much more to it than that. In any event, I repeat, my daughter is driving me insane.

And so on and so forth

I am currently listening to the sounds of my two eldest not napping or having quiet time like they were told to do. (Today was a half day of school.) But I am not hearing the screaming and tantrum crying that I've heard out of the Princess the last few days, so I don't really care. As long as no one wakes up Chewie I'm pretending I don't know what's going on.

The Princess has been crazy. Beyond crazy. I don't know if she's squeezing the last bit of terrible two syndrome that she can since she turns 3 on Saturday, or if she will just always be crazy and it will never end for me.

The past couple of weeks have been less than stellar. Besides the tantrums all day long over socks and who makes it down the stairs first, I've also been fighting a sinus infection. Last week was rotten. It started as allergies so I took benedryl two nights in a row and it did nothing but knock me out. My running was crap. Whether it was the sinus infection or in my head doesn't really matter... in any event I couldn't run what I was supposed to. Last Friday I was supposed to run 1.5 miles straight (I've been doing a run/walk and lengthening my running sections) and I didn't even get close. The back of my knees/legs hurt, my sinuses were killing me, and I was so light headed and dizzy and I just couldn't even do a whole mile. It sucked. I got some meds on Monday and made sure I ate enough before I ran on Wednesday. I was supposed to do 2 miles. I did 1.5 in 16 minutes of running and I was pretty happy about that! I'm just going to forget that I'm a week behind my friends and just do what I can do right now. I don't know if it was the meds or the fact that I *thought* having them would work or if it was the spaghetti and meatballs I had for lunch, but I'm glad. I'm looking forward to running tomorrow and then on Sunday we have another group run, this time at the actual race course, and I'm curious to see how I do there.

I'm a little torn right now because we just got the Princess's open house info for preschool. Naturally it's the same day and time as the 5k. In theory Vader could bring the kids to the open house and I could go to the 5k alone. She probably should go to the open house. But this is my first 5k and I would like my husband and children there! And I don't want to drive myself. The LAST thing I need is to worry about parking when I'm already nervous enough. Argh.

And now all 3 of my children are awake.

Embracing

The Princess is embracing being a 2 year old. Quite well. One minute she is all smiles and amazingly cute and clever. The next minute she is having an all-out breakdown because of a shoe. Or some minor thing that is the end of the world to her. Sometimes I have no clue. It's been great fun. Really.

I have been embracing the insanity. Really. Examples of my recent insanity: 1) I am thinking, seriously thinking, that I can avoid the baby jar route when Chewie starts eating solids and that I can just puree my own. I was afraid I couldn't because all we eat are frozen vegetables, but guess what? Unless you're getting fresh vegetables from your own yard or from the farmer down the road, frozen is actually BETTER for you. Amazing. I no longer have to feel guilty about giving my kids frozen peas. Anyway, so I can totally use frozen vegetables and puree them for Chewie. This is insane  because it goes against my true laziness and why would you start with the 3rd kid?? But it's cheaper... we already have the frozen veggies and I really don't want to have to go to Price Chopper to get the jars because Wal-Mart (where Vader does the food shopping) doesn't carry a good selection of Beech-Nut and that's what I prefer. 2) I am also seriously thinking about starting potty training--no more diapers training--with the Princess soon. I potty trained SkyWalker when the Princess was just 3-4 weeks old and it was the hardest craziest week ever. And here I am thinking of doing it again. Insane. But the Princess is further along than he ever was... it speaks to her "I do it!" attitude right now... and I'm stuck at home most of the time now anyway. I might as well right? Insane. 3) We went to a local farm stand and got some strawberries and the Princess picked up a tomato. Damnit if it isn't the best tomato I've had in a long time. So much better than the store-bought tomatoes. So now I am thinking that I should grow my own damn tomatoes. A) I am lazy. B) I know nothing about this stuff and C) I don't even like doing stuff like that. Who am I? Insane!! Although I did see some infomercial for a tomato growing device that you can hang upside down on your patio. Looked easy enough.

I will be 34 in just a few days. I'm not quite sure how this happened. I swear I'm still 18. Besides that whole 3 kids thing, I really don't feel like I'm in my 30s now. And I'm IN them. Almost in the middle of them. I don't think I like that. It's funny, you spend so much time when you're a kid wanting to speed up your life, wanting to be older, to just get on with it. And then one day you wake up and you're in your damn 30s and you think how the hell did that happen? And you want to pause time, stop it, enjoy every moment. Because you know every year, every day, every moment is just one more closer to, well, you know. And who the hell wants to be closer to that?

On a lighter note, if you're interested in books you should read my book blog. And if you have a google account you should follow me. I've always thought more people should follow me.

Pajama Day

I can see why teachers and kids think pajama day is fun. And it is--once a year. Maybe even once every 6 months. We had pajama day today. The last pajama day was less than a month ago, on March 16, I think. Right near St. Patrick's Day.

This is ridiculous. I heard some TA today say something to SkyWalker about "well, at least you didn't have to get dressed today." Huh? Is that what they think we do? Let them get out of bed and just leave? Maybe some parents would send their kids in the pajamas they just slept in, but not me. And actually until he's potty trained and not having huge soaking wet diapers after 12 hours of sleeping, he wears a different pair of pajamas every night. Yes, I know, many parents of non-potty trained kids do not change their pajamas every night. I have enough pajamas. He wears a different pair every night. Even if he doesn't actually pee in them, after a night of having a full diaper they just don't exactly smell fresh... And he drools.. and gets snot all over them. Anyway, so I send him in a brand new clean pair of pajamas for pajama day and all it does is confuse him because he doesn't know why the hell he's wearing pajamas during the day. It's very irritating.

What's also irritating is that he's laying on the couch and has been pointing his ass in my face and farting. At least he's not doing it on purpose like some people that live here. He stinks though. He's been complaining about poop again... he pooped on Wednesday with no assistance, but I don't know if he pooped yesterday. He did eat some bran flakes for dinner tonight so at least he's not refusing to eat like on Tuesday.

I feel like crap. My back hurts, I've been a little crampy and I've had diarrhea today. Joy. I went to the OB yesterday and they did another non-stress test and everything came out okay and my urine is fine so really there's no reason to believe anything is awry, but as I've said many times there is no room in the pregnant brain for logic. So of course I'm scared and nervous and freaked out. I really hope Vader gets home earlier than his usual late, but I don't see it happening. It's funny, we're making sure that I'm not working alone at the library (even though I wouldn't be in the building alone) but I'm alone every evening with a toddler and two dogs. What am I going to do if I start bleeding then? Or go into early labor? This just sucks.

SkyWalker and I are having a bit of a power struggle right now so I suppose I should get off the computer. He seems to think that if he repeatedly hands me the remotes I'm going to let him watch another movie. Oooh, he "needs" the fire truck movie. Well, then that's just a different story isn't it? If he "needs" it.

Oh man, on top of his stinky farts one of the dog's just ripped one so bad there must be poop somewhere.

Ha! Now he's opened the cabinet door for the DVD player. Like it makes a difference. He is persistent. I'll give him that. The drama is hilarious though. I know half of it is because he needs to poop. But I mean really, to cry because you can't watch any more movies? That's just ludicrous. HA! Now he's saying he wants the coo-coo (choo-choo) movie. Giggle. Dude, how can you go from *needing* the fire truck movie to the coo-coo movie? He's just full of shit. Well, yeah, I guess he is full of shit...
